Bonsai Made for Each Other
Talk about a pair made for each other! These Arborvitaes haven’t left each other’s sides in decades. With all they’ve survived together, their bond is stronger than ever.

Flowering Quince Nursery Stock Repotting
Love the video 😅someones addicted to bonsai trees 😝
they smell like dog doo doo and vomit. But the leaves are absolutely beautiful
great job on bonsai, but chocolate marshmallows as breakfast?!
Looks FANTASTIC!! Well done, friend!
When is it best time to prune or repot to bonsai? I just bought mine with flowerings. Love the flowers but have no idea how to care for them
Spring before new leaves appear is a good time to repot. Pruning can be done at different times of the year depending on the goals. There is a huge variety of strategies to use when pruning. Far more than can be covered effectively in this format.
@@BonsaiEcho Can you do more video on japanese quints or bonsai methods?
@thanh-thuy9453 I rarely make videos anymore, so it isn’t likely that I’ll have something to see in that regard for some time.
@BonsaiEcho Hi again, should I wait until next spring to cut suckers that is growing from the root 3 and 6 inches away from base when I repot?
@@thanh-thuy9453 If you do not want the suckers to be part of the design, remove them now and anytime they appear again.
Beautiful trees!! I like your idea of the "no front" bonsai. Just had that thought today while working on my Japanese maple.. it has so many nice fronts lol
Why not highlight every side then, right?!!😍
@BonsaiEcho I agree!! Quick question regarding root work. I noticed you cut a few thick roots on the first tree you worked on. I did something similar on mine, but to a greater extent; I just worked on a maple that has been in a pot for most of its life (15-20 years old), and the roots were a mess. There were a lot of thick roots going straight down. My question is, for cuts that thick, is it okay to just leave the cut bare open, or is it possible/necessary to add some type of protection similar to how branches are protected with cut paste?
@@santiagoromero3475 I don’t apply any sealant to the cuts on roots. You’ll be able to see why it isn’t necessary on maples at the following repot. Healthy roots will produce new roots from the cut ends most of the time.
@@BonsaiEcho great to know! Thank you for the reply. For some contexts the roots were like the radius of a quarter coin... Possibly a bit thicker but not by much.
hi ,,what is the ratio of your pumice and fine bark,,,,,,thanks in advance....Lito
For maples: 40% Pumice, 40% composted bark, 20% lava
Looks GREAT!! Nicely laid out. The bonsai trees look awesome with the “charred” background.
Hi.. using Pine Bark for Bonsai medium its safe from termite attack?
It is a smaller particle of bark used for bonsai purposes. I have only seen termites attack larger pieces of wood. The watering of the bonsai also makes it less likely that termites would stay in the bark soil mix very long.
Gorgeous 😍
These are beautiful! Any videos on how to get the cedar seedlings trained for Bonsai? I have a ton, I’m up in snoco👍🏻
I don’t have video’s regarding cedar seedling training. It would take decades for that training to produce interesting bonsai. Planting in the ground and hard cut backs every other year would be a good place to start.
Great looking trees and fantastic pots you created. Nice work!
How long do you estimate the wooden “pots” will last? Any plans to reproduce the slabs in ceramic down the road?
Redwood is naturally rot resistant and these slabs can last for perhaps a decade or more in use. They have been in use for a few years already with little change other than on the upper surfaces where the sun has separated the grain a bit. I’ve already been noodling around ceramic replacement ideas, but the charm of the charred burl wood is difficult to replace with ceramics. It would be a different feel, for sure.
Very cool! Love the creativity all around on these!
Beautiful display area👍
Love your new set up. Trees are looking fantastic. Nice to see you producing new content. Thanks, keep growing
Mostly short form content for awhile. I have limited time to document and still keep up with the ceramics side of things. 😅
I had a determined deer get in the fence and "prune" my arborvitae and my Dawn redwood and a couple of my maples. The trees will recover but now they too will be multi topped trees. 😅😢😊😊
It’s a good look for them.
I remember when you first put these together/apart... Thanks for sharing the progress; and I love what you have done to your bonsai viewing area!
👍👌🙂
These two do make a great pair for display. Lovely idea when you put it together. Cheers
Really nice work you created beautiful bonsai .. I love the surroundings of your home …. Thanks for sharing Jared ..
The tweeting birds are paid actors.😉 Well… we pay them in birdseed.
The updated display area looks fantastic. More informal little videos like this one would be great, even just to see the progress on some of your trees. What kind of gravel are you using for the ground in this display area?
Washed gravel. 5/8 or something like that. I didn’t want the fines in there because I didn’t want it to compact. Much easier to keep weeds at bay with gravel that doesn’t compact.
👍👌🙂
Thanks for posting. I really appreciate your videos and I hope you have great success with your ceramics.
Thank you for that. 🙏 High five!
A beautiful tree and I also have a few that i love working with. I wish you all the luck for your new direction. Cheers
Maximum appreciation!
I am very glad you started on RUclips again. My eighth year doing bonsai. Your video's and other peoples video's learned me a lot. You inspired me to not using a front. Repotting with greater care of your trees. And cleanliness. You and other people meant a great deal in enjoying my hobby.👍👍👍👍.
That is very nice for me to hear. 😊 I appreciate you!
Nice to sse you back. Hope to see a garden tour, now it´s almost a couple of years since last time you made a video, if a remember correct.
A short garden tour was uploaded just before this video. Some changes since last video, for sure!
@@BonsaiEcho Very nice. I will take the tour 😅
Welcome back! Great to see you again! 🙂🙃🙂
👋
Can you show more of this process? Amazing😮
Was very happy to see a new video, that display area looks amazing you should be really happy with yourself! Trees look great, benches looks great! Thank you !
👍👌🙂
Very Noice
Looking great. This could inspire others to look at reusing things to make a display area like yours. Impressive. Your arrangement of the trees is another good job done.
Amazing upgrade!!! The trees are all looking great too!
He’s back!
Love what you’ve done. Great work!
good to see you (your trees) ;)
Which way does the sun run across your yard, or which way do these bench run ie: North- South, East- West? Looks great ✌
Benches run East to West. There’s a solid 3-4 hours of full sun at the height of summer in that location.
So happy to see a video from you and that display area is looking fantastic. It is good to see some of your great trees again.
Glad to see another bonsai echo video. Beautiful bonsai garden 👍👍👍
Great to see new video content from you Jared. The new display area is looking fantastic 👍
I'd leave the root, looking at it, I had a vision of seeing a doorway leading into the tree. It's a very individual feature
Wow, I love it!
Que chulo👍👍👍👍👍
That is a GORGEOUS maple bonsai!!! Awesomeness!!!
✨ interesting ... Thx 👍
Great video. What time of year is best for root worker pruning, and can you do both together? I am in NorCal.
Root work is best done just as a period of strong root growth is starting. There can be several times of the year when that happens depending on local climate. In Western Washington I do root work in late fall or early spring. Both are times when fresh root tips are easily seen when a rootball is removed from the container. If you are coastal NorCal, root work season is in full swing there now. Central Valley NorCal is nearing the end of root work time or could even be already past the ideal time depending on the tree.
Did they sprout?
Four sprouted. I collected a small amount of ginkgo nuts last fall to try some more. I froze them for a couple of months this time. Will be scarifying and then planting in seed trays in the next couple of weeks. No video expected this time.
Very good presentation. I have a small yew that I don’t know what to do with. Could you help me?
My suggestion is to cut it back hard then let it grow for a year or two and then repeat that process for the next several cycles. It’ll stay healthy with the new growth sessions and will get nice and full in a relatively short time.
Wow. Beautiful!!
